If toning up and getting yourself into better shape is on your list of New Year’s resolutions—you can’t overlook the power of joining a boxing fitness center in Houston. Boxing fitness workouts offer the most return on your hard work, burning over 500 calories per workout and work your entire body.
The great part about this method of fitness training is that you don’t have to know a thing about boxing. You don’t need to know the rules, the sport, or who the best pro boxer is. You just need to want to better yourself and be willing to work at it. Boxing fitness centers in Houston are growing so rapidly over the last decade that it inspired us to open one of the most innovative iterations of boxing fitness in Houston.
Why Boxing?
As we mentioned before boxing is an excellent overall workout and anyone can do it, all body types, sizes, physical limitations, whether you’re skinny, obese, weak or strong— ANYBODY CAN DO IT. But many ask, “Why boxing? Why not cardio or treadmill or aerobics?”
Actually, what they don’t realize is, all of the things they mentioned are part of boxing training regimens at all skill levels. When you look at boxers from a physiological standpoint, you see that they are some of the most conditioned athletes in the world.
Their sport demands the highest in endurance, mental clarity, breathing, strength, and balance. All of which require good cardio, aerobics, strength and resistance training, and reflex skills.
When a boxer is going toe to toe with their opponent in the ring, there is no cover, nowhere to hide, no other option but to defend and react. That requires speed, strength, reflexes, and coordination. All things we can benefit from in the world outside of boxing.
You don’t have aspirations to become a pro boxer or even an amateur boxer to benefit from training at a Houston boxing fitness center—you just have to have the will to reach your fitness goals. Boxing training is the means to the end goal that you choose, not a career in professional boxing per se.
The other reason boxing fitness is so effective at achieving your fitness goals is that it’s a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) method that isn’t boring. HIIT gives you bursts of sustained physical intensity followed by intermittent rest periods that are very brief.
The problem with most workouts and other HIIT regimens is that they “feel” like training and don’t feel like recreation or have any sense of excitement. Boxing, however, offers exercises that actually build up skills. Also, boxing combines very important types of physical exertion all in one workout. Cardio, strength training, endurance training, aerobic workouts, anaerobic workouts, and muscle memory exercises. It really is the most complete workout regimen you can get into and it pays off nicely while also reducing stress.
We Are The Future Of Houston Boxing Fitness Centers
While HTX Fightcamp isn’t the first or only boxing fitness center in Houston, we are the most forward thinking and innovative program in the city. Our combination of a traditional boxing training program with a boot camp style environment motivates and teaches our students how to reach their fitness goals and maintain a lifelong fitness regimen and lifestyle change.
We Hit It Hard Here
Our boxing classes are filled with students from all walks of life, all fitness levels and all limitations. What we do here is “hit it HARD.” When we say that we don’t necessarily mean punching hard—you’ll get to that skill eventually. No, what we mean is whatever is holding you back from your fitness goals, your life goals, and your happiness—attack it and HIT. IT. HARD. The only way we can help you achieve your goals is for you to be willing to do that. If you can commit to that mentality—we can train you and give you the skills to crush those obstacles and get in the best shape of your life. But, it’s not just about hitting it hard either, there’s another part to the formula.
You Gotta Roll With The Punches
You didn’t think you’d get through this blog without at least one Rocky reference, did you? Of course not! In all seriousness, when the Rocky franchise was resurrected after a long absence from pop cinema with the aptly named film simply titled, “Rocky Balboa,” We were inspired by a speech Rocky gives his son, a struggling financial professional in which he riffs on the struggles of life and how to conquer it:
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!”
Makes you want to go out and run along the beach in Galveston at full sprint while blasting “Gonna Fly Now” in your ear pods right? No? Ok, so we’re huge Rocky fans, sue us. The point is, and we do have one—that life is hard and obstacles make it seem unbeatable at times, but if there is a problem standing before you, like everything else in the world—everything has it’s opposite. So, if there is a problem then it stands to reason there must be a solution. You can hit hard all you want but if you can’t take a punch, you’re gonna get knocked out—game over.
Your obstacles to your fitness goals whether it’s lack of time, lack of ability, lack of strength—anything that is keeping you from reaching your goals; can hinder you but it cannot stop you unless you let it. So you have to get off the canvas when you get hit hard and hit right back. We aim to inspire our students to rise above their obstacles and crush their goals with the skills we teach and the confidence we build in our students to overcome.
